Pets live like well-fed slaves!
Jan 9, 2025
People's love for dogs as pets is not a true love! They keep the dogs on a leash while moving out, fearing the dog unleashing its wild nature when it mixes with outsiders. The pets live like slaves!
When we converted forests into deforests, we endangered many animals and dangerously altered the biodiversity. Among them, dogs are at the top of the list, followed by many other animals, including cats, yaks, and others. However, nothing compares to the bond we have with dogs. If we were to open the door and set them free, other animals might return to the forest, but dogs would not. Their lives are so connected to us. Cats belong to us but often do not share the same emotional connection dogs do. Still, cats have a wild attitude.
I believe we have done an injustice to dogs. We have reshaped them to fit our requirements and beauty standards. Dogs belong to the wild dog family; a few left the forest and joined us. However, like any other life, if they trust humans. They often end up feeling betrayed. We have broken their trust and confined them to our living rooms, altering them in many ways.
Animals are supposed to be wilder than humans, but they have become tamable while we have become wilder. We treat them as if they have committed an offence against us. Instead of allowing them to roam freely and mingle with other dogs, we have completely stripped away their wildness and freedom as we make them "pets." We make them materials for research labs to create many different breeds: some for companionship, others for protection, and some simply for our vanity. There are distinctions, and some we keep for security as well.
Yesterday, while sitting in a coffee shop, I saw a dog struggling to walk. Upon closer inspection, I realised that the custodian of the dog had put a foot cap on it to prevent it from bringing home dirt from outside. The owner seemed unconcerned about the dog's discomfort; to him, the dog was just a pet, and he felt entitled to treat it as he wished.
This is the new fashion. Many so-called pet lovers are emerging. Instead of loving their pets, they often cause them great distress. Interestingly, where does this so-called love arise? First, many people suffer from loneliness after sending their children away for what they call a "better education." Secondly, many couples now do not want children but still need someone to love. Therefore, they buy pets and provide them with excessive care. However, we must understand that animals are not here solely for our companionship.
Human greed and the desire for luxury have created a helpless situation, pulling us away from natural living. Consequently, we seek love from pets while distancing ourselves from our children for education and careers. This greedy lifestyle has created a disconnect with family members, prompting people to bring poor home animals from outside. It is our nature to seek companionship, especially in distress and disaster.
We must treat animals as equals, not as pets or slaves. That is the essence of true love.
